MHS STUDENT RECOGNISED FOR VOLUNTEERING WITH THE BRITISH RED CROSS SOCIETY

Congratulations to Jessica Best, a Year 12 student at the High School, who recently attended an Awards Ceremony to recognise her volunteering work with the British Red Cross Society. Jessica was awarded a Millennium Volunteer Certificate, having completed 200 hours of work with the organisation.

Jessica commented that she thoroughly enjoyed the time spent helping others and she benefitted in many different ways from the experience.

 

MHS STUDENTS VISIT KRAKOW, POLAND

 

Over mid-term a joint group of sixth formers from St. Pius’ College and MHS travelled to Krakow in Poland to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. The trip began with a historical tour of the Krakow Ghetto and the Jewish Quarter, Kazimierz followed by a trip to the world renowned world heritage site, the Wieliczka Salt Mines. On the Thursday, the group travelled to Auschwitz and investigated the causes of the genocide that occurred there.

MHS NETBALL STUDENTS SELECTED FOR NORTH-EASTERN AREA BOARD TEAM

At Under 15 level Hannah Vance, Lisa Vance, Rachel Brown and Amy Boyce (all year 11) were selected for the North Eastern Area Board Team (Trials held on 15 October in Ballyclare High School) to play in the Youth Games in March.  At Under 13 level Jayne Davis, Ellen Davis, Ellen Bates, Beth McLean, Claire Wilson and Neha Varghese were selected during trials on Tuesday 18 November in Ballyclare High School.  These girls will play in the Under 13 section of the Youh Games in March.

MHS STUDENTS EXCEL IN HOCKEY

The Year 8 and 9 teams extremely well dominated their match against Sperrin Integrated College's Year 8 and 9 teams.  With some magnificent play from player of the match Jessical O'Neill driving home several of the goals with amazing force and accuracy.  The final score 8-5 to Magherafelt High.  Fantastic performance from all the girls.  Keep up this effort!!
